Li'l Abner

Music by Gene de Paul, Lyrics by Johnny Mercer
Based on Al Capp's creations

Directed by Peter Clapsis
Musical Direction by Danielle Flury

September 7 - October 1, 2006

By the mid-fifties, Al Capp's newspaper strip was a part of American consciousness. Li'l Abner had been celebrated on magazine covers, a feature film, comic books, a series of theatrical cartoons and more merchandise than you could shake a Shmoo at. Still, an area that especially interested Capp remained unconquered: The Broadway stage. All that changed the night of November 15, 1956 when the musical version of Li'l Abner opened at the St. James Theater.
